PEN has successfully installed 10,000 sq.m area solar collectors for drying of tea-leaves, coffee, spices, fruits, vegetables, pulses, leather, salt, cloth, ceramic and fish.
Through these units 14000 tones of fuel wood equivalent are being saved annually.
PEN holds a number of patents on solar heating and drying technology.
Introduced fully solar operated solar fish drying units – nearly 50 numbers – as livelihood support to Tsunami affected coastal villages in south India.
PEN has undertaken R & D projects from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Ministry of food processing industries (MFPI).

International Energy Agency (IEA), an international agency with Paris headquarters, has invited Dr C.Palaniappan of PEN as a special invitee for the Task Force 33 formed to explore the introduction of solar heat to industries.
